Hesitation of mind between contradictory views, accompanied by a fear of error. In methodical doubt a person is in a state of certainty but abstracts from this fact in order to critically examine the truth of some matter. It is the opposite of a real doubt. In practical doubt the mind is uncertain about a prudent course of action or the moral certitude about something to be done here and now. In speculative doubt there is uncertainty either about the mere truth or error of something or the merely abstract goodness of a course of action. Universal doubt is a state of suspended assent about any and every truth. In voluntary doubt the will enters to withhold assent even in the presence of sufficient evidence. (Etym. Latin dubium, doubt, deliberation; from dubitare.)
이것은 어떤 실제적 의심(a real doubt)의 반대(the opposite)입니다. (d) 보편적 의심(universal doubt)은 임의의 및 각각의(any and every) 진리에 관하여 보류된(suspended) 인정(assent)의 어떤 상태를 말합니다. (e) 자발적 의심(voluntary doubt)에는 의지(the will, the rational appetite, 즉, 이성적 욕구)가, 심지어 충분한 증거의 현존에도 불구하고, 인정(assent)을 억제하기(withhold) 위하여 들어갑니다(enters). 라틴어 dubium, doubt, deliberation; from dubitare.]
An uncertainty of mind totally induced by the will, when a person withholds assent even in the presence of sufficient or prudentially adequate evidence.
자발적 의심(voluntary doubt)
한 인격이 심지어 충분한 혹은 신중하게(prudentially) 적절한 증거의 현존에 있어서도 인정(assent)을 억제할 때에, 의지(the will, the rational appetite, 즉, 이성적 욕구)에 의하여 전적으로 유도되는 마음(mind)의 어떤 확신하지 못함(an uncertainty)을 말합니다.

출처: https://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG0015/__P7C.HTM (발췌 시작) 2088 The first commandment requires us to nourish and protect our faith with prudence and vigilance, and to reject everything that is opposed to it. There are various ways of sinning against faith:
2089 Incredulity is the neglect of revealed truth or the willful refusal to assent to it. "Heresy is the obstinate post-baptismal denial of some truth which must be believed with divine and catholic faith, or it is likewise an obstinate doubt concerning the same; apostasy is the total repudiation of the Christian faith; schism is the refusal of submission to the Roman Pontiff or of communion with the members of the Church subject to him."11 (이상, 발췌 및 일부 문장들의 우리말 번역 끝)
