2022-03-17 ㅣ No.153827 헨리 나웬 신부님(1932.1.24-1996.9.21)의 오 ! 그리고 늘 ! 3월 17일 <상처입은 갈대를 꺾지 않는다는 것> Not Breaking the Bruised Reeds 우리 가운데 몇몇은 약간 흠집이라도 난 것들은 내버리는 경향이 있습니다. 고쳐서 쓰기보다는 "손 볼 시간이 없어요. 쓰레기통에 버리고 차라리 새로 사는 게 낫겠어요."라고 말합니다. 종종 사람들도 이런 식으로 대접합니다. " 그이는 술 마시는 게 문제고, 그 여자는 우울증이 심하고, 그이들은 지금껏 사업을 그르쳤어요--- 그이들과 함께 일을 하는 모험은 피하는 게 낫겠어요." 우리가 남들의 드러난 상처 때문에 내친다면 종종 상처에 묻혀있는 재능을 무시함으로써 우리는 그이들의 삶이 성장하는 걸 막아버리게 되는 겁니다. 상처가 보이든 안 보이든 우리는 모두 상처입은 갈대와 같습니다. 자비로운 삶이란 바로 약함 속에 강함이 숨어 있고 참다운 공동체란 연약한 이들이 함께 모인 거라고 믿는 삶입니다. Not Breaking the Bruised Reeds March 17 Some of us tend to do away with things that are slightly damaged. Instead of repairing them we say: “Well, I don’t have time to fix it, I might as well throw it in the garbage can and buy a new one.” Often we also treat people this way. We say: “Well, he has a problem with drinking; well, she is quite depressed; well, they have mismanaged their business…we’d better not take the risk of working with them.” When we dismiss people out of hand because of their apparent woundedness, we stunt their lives by ignoring their gifts, which are often buried in their wounds. We all are bruised reeds, whether our bruises are visible or not. The compassionate life is the life in which we believe that strength is hidden in weakness and that true community is a fellowship of the weak.
