2000년 12월 23일 빈에서 열린 크리스마스 음악회의 실황을 담고 있는 이 음반은 이전에 발표된 세 테너의 다른 음반들과는 좀 차이가 있는데, 대부분의 곡을 세 명이 같이 부른 것에서도 알 수 있듯이 각자의 개인기를 한껏 뽐내기보다는 흥겹고 따뜻한 크리스마스의 분위기를 서로의 조화를 통해 잘 살려내고 있다. 군데군데 힘이 들어간 듯 뻣뻣한 노래들도 있지만 이 음반에 담긴 세 테너의 연주는 전체적으로 자신감 넘치고 깔끔하며, 오케스트라와 합창단의 연주도 신비롭고 즐거운 감정을 잘 표현하고 있다. 크리스마스의 설레임을 잘 느낄 수 있는 음반.

The Three Tenors first came together to celebrate the 1990 World Cup in Rome, and the resulting success sent shockwaves through the opera world. A decade later, the trio reunites to observe an entirely different kind of festivity. The Three Tenors Christmas was recorded in Vienna with conductor Steven Mercurio, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, and the Gumpoldskirchner Spätzen boy's choir. The 21 selections include favorite songs and carols, such as "Adeste Fideles," "White Christmas," "Silent Night," and "Winter Wonderland," as well as some unexpected holiday fare. Who would have guessed that these three operatic superstars would be raising their voices together in "Amazing Grace" or John Lennon and Yoko Ono's "Happy Christmas/War Is Over"? Their lyrical performances of classical lullabies by Brahms and Richard Strauss will come as no surprise, however -- and neither will the stirring atmosphere of this live concert recording. Each of the tenors has a touch of trouble singing in English, but that doesn't stop them from caressing the melodies in their inimitable style. The extravagant arrangements match the tenors' vocal opulence, creating a stirring and joyous accompaniment for sumptuous holiday celebrations. Andrew Farach-Colton
